Frequently Asked Questions

Get Answers to Your Pelvic Health Questions

Do you bill insurance?

We do not bill insurance, but if you have out of network benefits, you may be reimbursed for your visits.  We can provide a bill for you to submit.  Check with your provider relations to see if you have out of network benefits. Due to federal regulations, we are not able to see patients who have medicare of medicare replacement plans.

How many visits will I need?

The number of visits required is unique to each individual.  On the initial evaluation, a plan of care and specific goals will be established.  This is done in combination with the patient, to best fit their specific needs.  We are very skilled at education and teaching self care strategies.  What you do at home is of utmost importance.  We should know within 3-5 visits how you are responding. If for some reason, you are not responding as expected, we can make the necessary recommendations.

Do I have to remove my clothes for treatment?

Given the nature of pelvic therapy, getting disrobed from the waist down is usually required, but not necessarily every visit, depending on your diagnosis.  You will remain properly draped at all times to ensure privacy.  If you are not comfortable with this, we will work around it as best we can, but we may not get all the information we need.

Is it necessary to have a prescription from a physician?

No, it is not necessary to have a prescription from a physician. The state of Florida has direct access to physical therapy services.  However, within 30 days of your evaluation, we will need a physicians signature on file, on either your plan of care or on a prescription. We will assist you in getting this if necessary.  This can come from your primary care physician, chiropractor, or your specialist.

Is there a cancellation fee?

Yes, a cancellation fee is assessed if there is less than a 24-hour notice of your appointment.  We are very understanding of emergencies and sicknesses, and we do take this into consideration.

Can I bring in a spouse, friend, family member or partner to my appointment?

By all means, if you feel more comfortable bringing someone to your appointments, we can accommodate this request.   We often encourage a partner to come in for a session or two to learn how they can help at home.

What is the minimum age for an evaluation?

If you are under the age of 18, you will need parental consent.  We recommend that your first pelvic exam be done by a physician.  A pelvic therapist should not be the first provider to preform this exam.
